Voluntary Charity Work At Hospitals Very Much Appreciated

charity volunteer work

There are several reasons why there are so many community members who take pleasure in doing voluntary charity work at hospital facilities in their community. One of the primary reasons is that working with adults and children who are ill or injured is certainly something that is a good use of the volunteer's time and it is rare when the needed attention and care that is given to patients is not very much appreciated.

In most instances, hospital patients feel somewhat trapped when they have to be in a hospital, and add to that the stress of dealing with their injury or illness. In such situations, these patients really appreciate the company and attentive assistance that community volunteer work participants are able to provide for them.

There are many volunteers who say that their favorite form of voluntary charity work involves working with children who are stuck in drab and dull hospital rooms. They find it particularly gratifying to bring a smile to a sick child and help to make their day brighter.

Hospital volunteer work with children also means that the volunteer is giving the parents of a sick or injured child a much needed break so that they can get a meal, take care of their other children or other responsibilities, or just take a few moments to freshen up. When parents have a sick child in the hospital, they often feel guilty even leaving the bedside for a moment. Yet knowing a friendly and compassionate voluntary charity worker is near at hand makes them feel more relaxed, so that they can also take care of themselves, which is also very important.

There is another reason why young people should become involved in volunteer charity work at a hospital. It can be beneficial to the volunteer, as they can list the charity work they have done on their resume or college application. Showing this evidence of being a caring person, who has been involved in summer volunteer work for teens in their community can help the volunteer get their foot in the door at a company they wish to work for or be accepted into a better quality of school. While this should not be the primary reason why a person volunteers to do charity work, it can be a very nice extra side benefit for giving up their time and energy to do charity volunteer work at hospitals.

For volunteers who would like to take advantage of that benefit, they should request a letter of recommendation from their supervisor who oversees the medical volunteer work. This recommendation can be kept and used for many years in the future for job and school situations and just having it in hand can make the volunteer feel they have contributed well and can give them an extra boost of confidence for their work well done.

Doing voluntary charity work in a hospital is also a terrific way for those who are interested in entering the medical field, either as a nurse or a doctor, to get a feel for the work from the inside perspective. And, when applying for medical school, having a letter of recommendation that shows a track record of caring and kind hospital volunteer work can score some big points for the prospective candidate.

Earning a Christian Counseling Degree

How to Earn a Christian Counseling Degree Online

It could be your desire to further your education by earning a higher degree in Christian counseling. As a busy professional working long days it may be hard to find the time. You may be a pastor of a large or small congregation or a lay counselor and have a need for a degree in Christian counseling. You may be able to have an opportunity to do just that by working on your Christian counseling degree online.

Offering Christian Premarital Counseling

Many counseling centers offer Christian premarital counseling.  This may be an area of specialization that you feel called to.  It is important to receive certification in that specific area of Christian counseling.  Having the proper credentials allows your clients to use their health insurance to possibly cover their counseling costs or at least pay for a portion of them.

Our Troubled Society

In the troubled world we live in today there are many Christians suffering with financial debt, depression, drug addictions, sex addictions, or possibly have a problem child at home. There are more and more single or married adults requiring professional counseling. As a Christian, it is desirable to seek guidance, direction and advice through solid Biblical counseling.

Offering Biblical Advice

Offering biblical advice is really the only true and lasting counsel to offer.  Unfortunately many people prefer to hear what makes them "feel good."  Feel good advice is superficial, usually does not get to the root of the problem and will not last long.  The most common counsel is to get back into God's word and Christian fellowship.

If you receive well founded biblical advice and apply it in your life you should see results rather quickly.  Secular counseling would like people to come on a continual basis, sometimes for years.  Christian counseling seeks to set you on the right biblical course just a few sessions.

Seek biblical counsel early, receive it, and apply it to the situation you are currently in. You may discover that when the another difficulty arises you are more able to handle it because you have received the tools with which to deal with it.

Just like it says in Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar finally looked towards God.  His sanity returned to him and he was able to continue serving and praising God.

Take advantage of the Christian counseling services available so that you can turn from whatever is holding you back and allow you to move forward.

Having the necessary credentials and degree in Christian Counseling will allow you to help those in need of good solid biblical counseling.  It is so rewarding to know what your calling is and be able to fulfill that calling by becoming a certified Christian counselor.

Discussing Powerful Motivators For Interventions

intervention services

It can be difficult to understand why a person does not seek out assistance when caught in the steely grips of addiction. Since drugs and alcohol affect nearly every part of the brain, judgment is clouded to the point that the person cannot see reality anymore. Interventions present an objective reality to the individual and a path to recovery. The intervention plan offers a "Do or Die" scenario, with possible consequences that effectively prompts the substance abuser to confront his or her situation.

To begin planning an intervention, family members and friends will assemble a persuasive team of people who are committed to seeing the troubled individual succeed. The group should consist of people who are capable of communicating in a non-accusatory, sensitive, honest and loving manner, who won't explode angrily or thwart the group's overall objective. The group members must be willing to voice their concerns, look the addict in the eye and say "You have a problem."

Commonly, interventions require each member of the group to read a paragraph expressing their feelings, so the team members must be prepared to do this. If the individual refuses abuse treatment, then the team members must be prepared to issue a decree stating the consequences and all people involved must remain firm. Sometimes this means refusing money, shelter or other enabling behaviors.

Change is often prompted by the inability to make any other choice. Many abusers, when confronted with the gravity of the situation will turn around, although most teary interventions are successful because the individual finally realizes the pain he or she has caused family and friends, or feels overwhelmed by the amount of support that has come together on his or her behalf.

Before interventions take place, the support team must consider what "the next step" will be. The ultimate goal of an intervention plan is to present the individual with a path to recovery; a path that traditionally involves institutional support, whether it's a medical detoxification clinic or an Alcoholics Anonymous support group. Some substance abuse treatment centers cost as much as $50,000 for a 30-day inpatient program, while others are government-funded and accept Medicare insurance payments. There are day treatments or outpatient care arrangements, where the recovering addict attends group meetings 3-4 hours per day 3-5 days per week. For more seriously afflicted individuals, there are inpatient arrangements which can be completed in 7-10 days or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs that last 21-45 days or even a year. Even after the individual is released from inpatient treatment, he or she may continue with outpatient treatment for up to six months to ensure long-term success.

The good news is that you do not have to plan interventions on your own. There are many community resources that are just a phone call away. A professional interventionist will discuss intervention programs and treatment options with you, help devise a successful intervention plan and arrange a meeting with the substance abuser. Sure, there is always the risk that the afflicted person will refuse the intervention, but the alternatives are far worse. Could you live with yourself knowing that you did not do all that you could do?

The Benefit of Christian Premarital Counseling

How to Choose a Christian Counselor

There is wisdom in a multitude of counselors the Bible says. "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." Proverbs 15:22. People who have tunnel vision, those who are locked into one way of thinking, are likely to miss the right road because they have closed their minds to any new options. We need the help of those who can enlarge our vision and broaden our perspective. Seek the advice of a professional and those who have a wealth of experience.

Christian Career Counseling a Wise Decision

If you are a Christian looking for a new job or a Christian college student just graduating you may need to visit a Christian career counseling center for some wise advice. There may be one available at your church or school. They administer a few tests to determine what your gifts and strong points are to get you going in the right direction. This will save you time dropping off resumes at locations that may not be well suited for you.

Christian Premarital Counseling

If you are a Christian couple pondering marriage it is also wise to start a Christian premarital counseling series with a certified Christian counselor. Through these series of meetings you will discover how well matched you may or may not be. It is far better to learn more about each other before you head to the altar rather than after you have been married for several years. God gave us marriage as a gift. Man and woman were created perfect for each other. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." Genesis 2:24. Find out if you are ready for this level of commitment before promising, in a public ceremony, yourselves to each other.

Christian Marriage Counselors

A couple may feel they are facing insurmountable problems and want to end the marriage.  There are many Christian marriage counselors readily available to help you overcome these problems and save the marriage.  Unless there has been abuse or your spouse has been unfaithful and unwilling to repent, your problems can be faced one by one and solved.  Seeing your marriage through God's perspective is the only way.

Seek direction from your pastor.  They are usually very qualified as a Christian marriage counselor.  He may feel you need to visit a professional and will be able to recommend one for you.  Personal testimonials or references are the best way to choose a counselor.  Saving your marriage is the ultimate desired result.

If the fees for counseling are a challenge for you talk to the counselor. I am sure they can work out a payment plan or fee that may be more acceptable. They realize that finances can cause pressure on a recent college graduate, newlywed or married couple with children. Your life's goals and trials are God's concern also and He wants you to succeed as much as you do.

Alternative Energy Sources For Private And Commercial Use

Traditional, carbon based resources like coal, natural gas and oil are finite. As they get harder to find and extract from the ground the price to use these resources will go up. This trend will continue if more resources continue to be used. And there are potentially more telling costs that come with using fossil fuels. They are thought to contribute to environmental problems like global warming and destroying the ozone layer that will be paid for by future generations. So what other alternatives exist to using these traditional forms of energy generation. This article will cover a few of the alternative energy sources that are being touted as practical solutions both commercially and for the individual homeowner.

The first alternative energy source to be covered is solar energy. It has been with us for a good number of years now and many people are familiar with the odd solar panel in the neighborhood. In fact, mankind has always used the Sun's energy in one form or another for thousands of years but only in the last 50 years has it really taken off as we know it now.

At this point in time, the Sun's heat and light energy is utilized to make energy for consumption.

Heat energy provided by the sun is used for many things like heating water, heating a room or cooking food. As the Sun's heat was tangible, the inspiration for using it as an energy resource was not a great leap of the imagination. Indeed, it was probably used in many ancient civilizations as an energy resource and might explain why so many of these civilizations worshiped it as a god.

Using light energy is still a fairly new innovation by comparison. The photo voltaic cell (PV cell) is the technology that makes this happen. The idea was first tested in the late 19th century however it wasn't produced and sold until the middle to late 20th century.

The principle behind it is that photons in sunlight hit the PV cell causing an electron to be displaced from the atom. Many cells and more sunlight cause more electrons to flow. This is how direct current (DC) electricity works. Direct current can be used to power appliances (that run on DC), stored in a battery or converted to alternating current (AC).

Another popular renewable energy option is wind power. I think this is because it is fairly well understood by most people as a concept. It may also be because plenty of wind turbines are popping up all over the countryside.

A wind turbine is a modern day windmill, it uses the power of the wind to turn blades. The kinetic energy is used to power a generator that creates electricity. Many developed and developing countires are increasing their production of wind turbines each year. They promise to deliver clean and cheaper ways to create energy.

Wind turbines or windmills can even be built in residential homes at a reasonable cost. It is quite simple to build a windmill or turbine from scratch or a pre-built variety can be purchased. Before you start thos project however, you should really establish if you get enough wind to make it worth the effort and a clear area to locate the turbine. You may also want to notify your neighbors that you are erecting a turbine as it could be an issue with some people.

Other familiar renewable energy systems exploit the kinetic energy in water to create usable energy, like electricity. This is hydro-power and a dam is an obvious example of this process in action. Geothermal energy can also be used to some extent. The idea behind this is to use the heat found in the earth core to heat water, much like a hot spring or spa, to use as it is or as an input to a generator.

Princess Diana Charity Work Continues

hospital volunteer work

The shy schoolteacher who became engaged to Charles, Prince of Wales, was quickly thrust into the spotlight until her untimely death in 1997; all eyes were on the doings of Princess Diana. During the sixteen years between her royal marriage and her passing, she became one of the most liked and highly regarded of the royals. When she passed away people all around the globe mourned the loss, almost as if they had lost a cherished friend. In many ways, Diana's presence is still felt through the many Princess Diana charity work programs that are still underway.

When Lady Diana Spencer married Charles, the heir to the throne of Britain, in 1981, her life was forever changed in ways that she surely had never even imagined. It was in 1987 that voluntary charity work seemed to take on a more important role to her. It was at that time that Diana participated in the opening of a hospital ward that was dedicated to AIDS patients. People from around the globe were in shock when they saw that she chose not to wear protective clothing because the common belief, at that time, was that AIDS could be spread by casual contact.

Many have pointed to that very day and said that it was when the Princess Diana charity work, which she became perhaps best known for, was set in motion. There were a great many people, including the Queen, Charles and various royal advisors, who were not altogether sure that the Princess should be so closely associated with something like the AIDS charity volunteer work. However, it seemed that the debate itself over this matter gave her a more firm resolve to stay committed to voluntary charity work.

Soon enough, it was not only the AIDS hospital volunteer work that gained from Princess Diana's awareness and ministrations. Diana became the royal patron of no less than seventy different volunteer charity agencies and in short order had a packed schedule to try keep up with all of them. At first, the needs of babies and child welfare received most of her attention, but it was not long before Princess Diana took on many other dimensions as she discovered other opportunities for volunteer work London and through the British Empire.

After the AIDS cause, the volunteer charity organization that Diana became most closely aligned with was a group called Birthright and she soon became a patron of the group. Birthright is an organization that functions as the appeal department of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The mission of Birthright is to do significant amounts of fundraising to support research of the common problems of unborn children, including occurrences such as stillbirths, infant deaths and the complications of infertility.

Princess Diana's tireless work on the behalf of numerous voluntary charity organizations helped to throw a spotlight on many of the issues that were being addressed by international volunteer work programs and was instrumental in helping to encourage people around the globe to donate of their time, skills, effort, and money to good causes. Princess Diana did much more than just raise funds for various charities; she compassionately served those in need and inspired countless people to follow her lead.

"There is something quite moving about the way she talks with patients. Not only is she concerned about their problems, but they know she is. She understands the joy of having a baby and the anguish if something goes wrong. She felt very lucky and privileged to have had two healthy children, says Vivienne Parry, one of the group's national organizers.

Princess Diana had a strong determination to help charities that had been rejected by others, and her efforts extended to charity work overseas as well. Touched by the awful effects of leprosy, Diana became a patron of the Leprosy Mission. She was admired for the way that she not only shook the hands of those with leprosy but also would sit with them on their beds and visit with them like an old friend.

Even though her years with us were rather brief, the Princess Diana charity work that she undertook so enthusiastically helped many people around the world learn more about compassionate service, and how people should feel no misgivings about working closely with those who suffer from various diseases, traumas and illnesses. Diana's life was filled with a light that radiated compassion and the significant contributions she made to many causes will be remembered for many years to come.

The Advantages Of An Intervention Program

intervention specialist

Generally, an intervention program is used to treat things that medical science can't. There's no known medication that can prevent a thirteen-year-old youth from the desire to join a gang or rape someone., and medication may not be able to bring a baby's hearing back or assure a victim of domestic violence that everything will be alright. Therefore, a close relationship with a trusted intervention specialist can help foster positive feelings and trends within a person's life, as well as train the family and network of friends on how to help their loved one.

The most common type of intervention programs are for drug and alcohol abuse. It is nearly impossible for a chemically dependent person to step outside of his or her addiction and begin living a healthy life, without either hitting rock bottom or becoming far-removed from stress factors. With the help of an intervention specialist and support from loved ones, alcohol and drug interventions can be seen as "a new beginning" and gives the individual the "excuse" he or she needs to break free from controlling substances.

The success rate of substance abuse interventions is said to be around 90%. The abusers will learn more about the pain they've inflicted on their loved ones through family counseling. In a group setting, substance abusers can identify with others and understand that they are not alone, which will set the groundwork for self-esteem to grow. During one-on-one counseling sessions, the intervention plan is to identify obstacles to happiness, unearth the source of pain leading to the drug abuse or alcoholism, decide upon reasonable goals and develop healthy coping skills.

A sexual abuse intervention program is a vital resource for children and adults to get past feelings of guilt, fear, contempt, helplessness, regret, low self esteem, distrust and callousness. For children, there is usually a family intervention to help everyone cope. A six to eight week crisis intervention agenda will allow a psychosocial assessment and an initial briefing for families and kids. Ongoing treatment helps individuals strengthen interpersonal boundaries, become more self-assertive, enhance communication skills and develop a clear sense of traditional family roles. For young children, play therapy may be helpful, while older victims sometimes find group therapy empowering. For the sex offenders themselves, there are many intervention services, including at-home family therapy, weekly group therapy, parent support groups, individual counseling, family reunification and services to help members transition back into society.

When we think of intervention programs, we usually think of a person voluntarily choosing self-destructive behavior. However, there is another type of intervention program for infants with disabilities such as hearing loss, speech impairment, retardation or inhibited social skills. An Early Intervention Program is essential for these babies and their parents. Otherwise, infants and toddlers will have no chance at having a normal life or development. The program includes family support, instructing parents how to manage their responsibilities and raise the child in a nurturing environment. Additionally, parents are directed to community resources that will provide necessary support services. Health care and financial planning resources can also be facilitated. As a parent, don't feel you have to take this on alone!

Is Your Office Green?

At your home, you may have stopped using incandescent bulbs, you may have a low flow showerhead, you may have added more organic foods to your diet, and recycling may have become an ingrained habit. You are doing what you can at home to keep our Earth green and to reduce your carbon footprint.

But how many of us are carrying that same concern into the workplace? How many green office supplies do you use at work?

Using eco-friendly office supplies can save a business hundreds or thousands of dollars, depending on the size of your company. Here are eight ways to make your office a little greener.

1. Make it simple for your officemates to recycle. Set up bins for various recyclables that you go through in any given day. You can recycle the paper you print on, your calendars and organizers, even the ink cartridges themselves.

2. Purchase items made from recycled material, whenever possible. You can easily find post-consumer paper and even printers made primarily of recycled plastic.

3. Opt for refurbished office equipment instead of always buying new. Expect savings of 20 to 30 percent on refurbished office equipment and even more if you buy it used. Many items that are refubrished still have a valid manufacturer's warranty. Make sure to read the fine print before you finalize your purchase.

4. Waste not. Get into the eco-friendly office mindset by reducing your waste. Print and write on both sides of the paper. Print documents only when it's necessary to do so. Share PDF files, for example, instead of printing each document. Use email and bulletin boards to further reduce the amount of paper used for office memos. Scrap paper should be collected for recycling and not thrown away. And, whenever possible, reuse envelopes, boxes and packing materials.

5. Turn off your computer when you are done for the day. The few seconds it takes to boot up in the morning is well worth the electricity you will save by turning it off. You may be surprised to know that many office machines are continuing to draw power from their source, even when they are switched off. You can save energy by putting the office equipment on a power strip, so you can entirely switch off the electricity to the machines.

6. When you replace office supplies, do so with an eye toward energy usage. Switch a CRT monitor, for example, to an energy-saving LCD flat screen monitor. You'll save on energy costs in the long run.

7. Clean green. Don’t forget the cleaning products used in your office. You can "green" them too by using only non-toxic, biodegradable, natural cleaners. Depending on the size of your company, you might be doing the earth a favor to do away with Styrofoam or paper cups. Have employees bring their own glassware for coffee or water. For large office gatherings when it's not practical to ask everyone to bring their own place setting, consider compostable plates, bowls, cups, and cutlery. More and more office supplies stores are beginning to carry such items.

8. Start a Green Team. If your business is large enough to merit it, form a "green" committee to meet on a regular basis and brainstorm new ways to fill your workplace with eco-friendly office supplies.

Protecting the environment is important enough to be carried on anywhere we are, throughout our entire day, at work as well as at home.

Find Adoption Records

If you are searching for adoption records, you may or may not have any luck finding them. It has a lot to do with what type of records you are seeking. If you are looking for records for those who are still alive, possibly even for yourself, you may have problems. However, if you are working on your family tree, you may be able to find things far back in your family line. Sometimes, these are easy to find, and other times, next to impossible to locate.

When searching for your own adoption records, you may have big problems. If you have been adopted privately though a lawyer, you may not be able to open those records. If you arenít sure where or when, but you really want to find out what they say, you can seek the help of a lawyer or even a private investigator, but you should know you may not find what you are looking for. There are some services online that can search for them for you, for a fee, but you canít be sure they will find anything either. However, they are something to try when all else has failed.

When it comes to genealogy, you are going to have better luck in some cases. There are many web sites devoted to this subject, and they do have some adoption records in their files. What you can find will depend on if the adoption records have been saved, and if they have been put online. There are times when files were destroyed due to fire, or were just misplaced, and if there were not copies, that information is going to be gone forever. There are also times when names are transcribed incorrectly, so when looking for this type of information, think of possible misspellings if you arenít coming up with anything useful.

Any time you are looking for adoption records, remember to give it some time. These are also something that can be a huge goldmine for someone who is tracing a family tree but has come up against a brick wall. The reason they may not be able to go back any further might be due to an adoption that was not otherwise noted. By going back and looking for records in an area of time period, a name may pop up. Many times this is the reason why some lines stop and no one can find information on the name. That is because the name abruptly changed.

Patricia Stevenson owns and operates www.courtarrestrecords.com Court Arrest Records which finds many county records including adoption records.
